This umbrella topic covers pretty much everything under the sun when it comes to human potential: harnessing the power of the mind, optimising diversity of thought, how to stress less, managing energy, developing intuition, overcoming the double-bind, tackling impostor syndrome, managing perfectionism and integrating leadership and well-being.

This has been my most popular session so far. Originally designed for a women’s network, I rolled these three topics into one because they were the things I had wrestled with as a woman in the corporate world. I had no idea at the time that the content would have such resonance, beyond just me and beyond women.

Turns out that if you’re a high achieving human, you probably sit somewhere on the perfectionist spectrum (or you work with someone who does). Chances are that, unless you fully embody certain “dark side” personality traits that need not be mentioned here, you’ve had to deal with self-doubt somewhere along the way. That said, the double bind is something that affects only women, but many men are curious about this topic because they want to support the women around them (or they like a mental challenge).

As knowledge workers in the corporate world, most of us are pretty good thinkers – we know how to analyse, synthesise and apply logic to solve problems. That said, how often do we stop and think about the impact our thoughts are having on our emotions and behaviours? How often do we think about how we are crafting our own careers and lives? This session will offer you an opportunity to do just that – to take a step back to then move forward on the path to self-mastery.

The session will draw upon wisdom from Roman Emperor and Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius who, in Meditations, reflects on the critical act of retreating into the self to skilfully confront emergencies, which in his day included natural disasters, famine, barbarian invasions and plague. This timeless wisdom will be applied to the modern workplace for you to use in both ordinary and extraordinary times.
